Rushy Common Nature Reserve, Oxon (19/02/2011)

On the way back home I dropped in on this site, but the 3 birders there had not found the bird. I walked to view the lake from another angle and found the bird feeding on the far bank with a couple of Wigeon. I signalled to the other birders and we watched as the American Wigeon swam to join the other Wigeon on a small island where it had a quick preen and then went to sleep.

Plumage features noted included the greyish head with darker greenish black area through they eye, the whitish blaze to the front of its face and the salmon pink flanks and lower breast.

Year total: 100
